As the holiday season approaches and the scent of cinnamon and pine fills the air, your home in Norcross, GA, becomes a cozy retreat from the chilly outdoors. But while your family and friends gather for fun and feasts, hidden dust and allergens in your ducts could be clouding comfort and posing health risks. Think of your HVAC system as the lungs of your home. If it's congested, the whole space feels stuffy. Scheduling a duct cleaning before the holidays will ensure your home remains a comfortable, safe space for celebrations.

Clear the Air for a Healthier Home

Indoor air can be up to five times more polluted than outdoor air, according to the EPA. Over time, dust, pollen and pet dander accumulate in your air ducts, circulating whenever your furnace or heat pump runs. A pre-holiday duct cleaning removes these contaminants, helping your family and friends breathe easier. Clean ducts can also reduce allergy triggers, leaving your home fresher and more inviting when the celebrations begin.

Boost HVAC Efficiency and Save Energy

When ducts clog with debris, your HVAC system works longer to maintain comfortable temperatures. This not only strains the equipment but also drives up energy bills. The Department of Energy reports that improving airflow can enhance efficiency by up to 20%. Think of it as giving your system a tune-up before the busiest season. Your HVAC system shouldn't have to pull double duty while you're hosting holiday gatherings.

Prevent Unpleasant Odors and Dust Buildup

Cooking feasts, lighting candles and entertaining guests all add to indoor air challenges. A thorough duct cleaning removes the stale, dusty odors that can linger in vents. You'll notice cleaner air and fewer dust particles settling on your furniture, meaning less time tidying and more time enjoying your guests during the holiday season.

Protect Your Investment and Peace of Mind

Clean ducts extend the life of your HVAC system by reducing wear and tear. Regular maintenance prevents breakdowns that could interrupt your holiday comfort. Plus, it's an easy way to prepare your house for the new year. Consider it a gift to your home.

As the weather in Norcross, GA, turns chillier, homeowners face the annual challenge of keeping their homes warm without inflating energy bills. Heating systems that run inefficiently struggle to deliver comfort while wasting money. Here are four practical heating maintenance tips that boost efficiency and reduce winter energy costs.

Inspect and Replace Air Filters Regularly

Dirty or clogged filters are the silent saboteurs of home heating systems. They force your furnace or heat pump to work harder, driving up energy costs like an oven that’s running but not hot. Replacing air filters every 30 to 90 days allows air to flow freely, improving system efficiency and prolonging the life of your furnace or heat pump. Clean filters are your first line of defense against costly energy waste.

Master Thermostat Settings for Maximum Efficiency

Your thermostat is a vital part of your home’s heating system. Smart use can prevent energy from evaporating like morning dew. Set temperatures lower when you’re asleep or away and higher only when you need comfort. Programmable or smart thermostats adapt to your routine, cutting unnecessary energy use and trimming heating costs. In Norcross, GA, small adjustments can make a noticeable difference over the cooler months.

Schedule Professional Heating Maintenance in Norcross, GA

Regular inspections by trained service technicians catch minor issues before they snowball into expensive heat pump or furnace repairs. During heating maintenance, your system receives lubrication, calibration and a safety check. Atlantic Services, Inc.’s expert team can fine-tune your heater to operate at peak efficiency, saving you money and giving your home a cozy, reliable warmth throughout winter’s approach.

Upgrade to Energy-Efficient Equipment

Replacing an aging furnace or heat pump may feel like a leap, but it can be one of the smartest long-term investments that pays you back significantly. Modern heating systems consume less energy while delivering stronger, more consistent heat. Investing in an energy-efficient upgrade can lower monthly utility bills, reduce environmental impact and turn your home into a fortress against winter’s chill.

Winter is coming, and every Norcross home deserves efficient, reliable heating. Follow these heating maintenance tips and your system will reward you with lower energy costs and lasting comfort. Contact Atlantic Services, Inc. today to schedule heating maintenance today.

Are you adding a sunroom to your Sugar Hill, GA, home this summer? While sunlight can brighten any space, it can also make it unbearably hot. Installing a ductless air conditioner ensures your new sunroom stays comfortable without sacrificing style or energy efficiency. Here’s why a ductless AC system is the best choice for a sunroom:

Why Ductless Cooling is Perfect for Sunrooms

Sunrooms often have large windows and unique layouts, making traditional HVAC systems inefficient. A ductless air conditioner delivers targeted cooling directly into the space, eliminating energy loss through ductwork. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, ductless mini-splits can reduce energy consumption by up to 30 percent compared to conventional central air conditioners. This makes them an ideal solution for homeowners in Sugar Hill who want to enjoy their sunny retreats without incurring skyrocketing energy bills.

Cooling and Heating Efficiency Meets Stylish Comfort

Ductless AC systems are sleek and unobtrusive, preserving your sunroom’s aesthetic while maintaining comfort. With advanced inverter technology, ductless mini-splits adjust their cooling or heating output to match your comfort needs, providing consistent temperatures without constant cycling. The result is a comfortable, cozy, and controlled environment where you can enjoy a morning coffee or host evening gatherings all year.

Ductless AC Installation Benefits That Shine

Installing a ductless air conditioner in your sunroom offers multiple advantages:

Quick installation with minimal disruption to your home.

No ductwork required, preserving architectural integrity.

Individual zoned control for personalized comfort.

High cooling and heating efficiency ratings for energy savings.

Quiet operation to enhance relaxation.

Remote and smart device control for convenience.

Boost Your Home’s Value and Comfort

A sunroom with a ductless air conditioner enhances your daily living and can increase your property value. Sugar Hill, GA, homes with energy-efficient upgrades see an average resale value increase of 5 to 10 percent. Stay cool, attract potential buyers, and enjoy the benefits of a versatile space for reading, entertaining or soaking up the sun.

If you live in Chamblee, GA, you already know how unpredictable the weather can be. One minute it’s blazing hot and humid, the next it’s downright chilly. That kind of climate demands a dependable HVAC system, and not just any system, but one that’s the right size for your home. Unfortunately, a lot of folks overlook how crucial proper HVAC sizing is, which can lead to higher energy bills, uneven temperatures, and a whole lot of frustration. Here’s why getting it right matters.

The Climate Challenge in Chamblee, GA

Chamblee sees it all, sweltering summers where temps soar into the 90s and winters that dip into the 30s. Your HVAC system has to keep up with both extremes, and that’s no small task. If it’s not sized correctly, you could end up sweating through the summer or layering up indoors all winter long.

Because of the wide temperature swings, the stakes are especially high in this part of Georgia. A system that’s too big or too small just won’t deliver the steady, year-round comfort your home needs.

What “Proper Sizing” Really Means

When HVAC pros talk about “sizing,” they’re referring to how much heating or cooling power, measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units), your system needs to keep your space comfortable. Getting that number right isn’t a matter of guesswork. It involves detailed calculations that factor in your home’s size, insulation, windows, ductwork, and even how much sunlight your rooms get.

A lot of people assume square footage is the only thing that matters, but it’s not. Two homes of the same size can have completely different HVAC needs depending on their layout, age, and orientation.

What Happens If Your System is Too Big

Bigger isn’t always better. An oversized HVAC system can short cycle—turning on and off too frequently. That wastes energy, puts extra strain on the system, and shortens its lifespan.

Even worse, oversized units often can’t remove humidity effectively, which is a big deal in Chamblee’s muggy summers. So even if the air feels cool, it might still feel damp or clammy inside.

What Happens If Your System is Too Small

On the flip side, a system that’s too small will run nonstop trying to keep up. That constant strain means more wear and tear, higher energy bills, and rooms that never quite feel the right temperature, especially when the weather’s at its worst.

You might notice some rooms are too hot, others too cold, and no matter how much you adjust the thermostat, it just doesn’t feel quite right.

Is your air conditioner struggling to keep your home cool in Stone Mountain, GA? If so, a failing compressor might be to blame. As the heart of your cooling system, the compressor plays a significant role in how well your AC works. When it’s not doing its job, comfort suffers—and your energy bills can spike.

Let’s take a closer look at the most common signs that your AC compressor might be in trouble and what steps to take if you notice something’s off.

What the Compressor Actually Does

The compressor is essentially the engine of your air conditioning system. It keeps refrigerant moving through the system, helping to pull heat from inside your home and release it outdoors. When it starts to wear out or fail, the entire cooling process slows down or stops completely.

Sign #1: Warm Air Coming from the Vents

If your AC is running but the air coming out feels warm, the compressor could be the issue. It’s worth checking for simpler fixes first, like a dirty air filter or an improperly calibrated thermostat. However, if those aren’t the problem, it might be time for a professional to inspect the compressor.

Sign #2: Strange Noises Outside

Hearing clicking, rattling, or even screeching sounds from the outdoor unit? That’s not normal. These noises often point to internal compressor problems, like loose parts or a failing motor. It’s best not to ignore these sounds, as they’re often an early warning sign.

Sign #3: AC Struggles to Turn On

If your system has trouble starting or keeps shutting off, the compressor could be having what's called a “hard start.” You might hear it trying to kick on several times or stopping too soon. This often signals electrical trouble inside the compressor, and it’s not something to wait on.

Sign #4: Frequent Breaker Trips

When your AC keeps tripping the circuit breaker, it’s usually because the compressor is drawing too much power, often due to overheating or internal damage. This isn’t just bad for your AC; it can strain your home’s entire electrical system. Call a technician if this keeps happening.

Sign #5: Shaking or Vibrating Outdoor Unit

Some gentle humming is normal, but if your outdoor unit shakes or vibrates a lot while running, the compressor might be the issue. It could be a mounting problem or something more serious inside the unit. Either way, it needs a professional’s attention.

What to Do If You Suspect Compressor Trouble

Compressor problems aren’t DIY fixes. They require special tools and expert knowledge. If your AC is acting up, it’s best to bring in a trusted technician. Catching the issue early can help you avoid a total breakdown and possibly save you from a costly replacement.

Indoor air quality is quickly climbing the list of homeowner priorities in Vinings, GA— and it’s not hard to see why. With people spending more time indoors, the impact of allergens, fine particles, and unseen contaminants becomes harder to ignore. A whole-home air cleaner might just be the missing piece to improving not only the air you breathe, but also your daily comfort and the performance of your HVAC system.

What Exactly Is a Whole-Home Air Cleaner?

While portable purifiers are handy for single rooms, they only scratch the surface. A whole-home air cleaner is built to purify *all* the air circulating through your HVAC system — not just what's in one space. These systems are typically installed within the return air duct or directly in the air handler, where they go to work alongside your heating and cooling setup, filtering air before it flows through your home.

Using a mix of advanced filtration and electronic purification, they trap and neutralize everything from noticeable dust to microscopic pathogens and unpleasant odors. It’s a layered approach that leaves no particle behind.

Why Homeowners Love Whole-Home Air Cleaners

Captures dust, pollen, and pet dander before it spreads

Cuts down on household odors and VOCs

Neutralizes spores, bacteria, and viruses in the air

Delivers consistently fresher, cleaner air throughout your home

For those with asthma, allergies, or general sensitivities, having cleaner air circulating 24/7 makes a real difference — not just in comfort, but in quality of life.

Who Gets the Most Benefit?

Truthfully, any home can benefit from better air — but some households stand to gain more than others. If you live with pets, smokers, or anyone who struggles with respiratory conditions, a whole-home air cleaner can significantly reduce airborne irritants that might be triggering symptoms.

Homes located near busy roads, construction areas, or dusty environments are also prime candidates. And if you’ve noticed that allergy symptoms seem to worsen when you’re inside, it might be time to reassess what you’re breathing.

Better Air Means a Happier HVAC System

The perks don’t stop at personal health. By filtering out particles before they enter your HVAC system, these air cleaners help keep key components, like coils and ductwork, cleaner and running smoother for longer.

This leads to better airflow, reduced wear and tear, and even improved energy efficiency. Over time, it could mean fewer breakdowns and a longer life for your system overall — which your wallet will definitely appreciate.

Leave Installation to the Pros

It’s worth noting that not all air purification systems are created equal. And when it comes to installation, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. That’s where a certified HVAC technician comes in — to assess your home’s layout, air quality needs, and HVAC setup, ensuring everything is installed to perform at its best.

Store-bought purifiers just can’t match the whole-home coverage these systems offer. That’s why Atlantic Services, Inc. focuses on personalized indoor air solutions that are built around your unique home and lifestyle.

It’s Time to Breathe Easier

Investing in a whole-home air cleaner isn’t just about better air — it’s about taking control of your home’s comfort, health, and long-term efficiency. Whether you're dealing with allergy triggers, unwanted odors, or general air quality concerns, this upgrade could bring a noticeable difference.

Over time, your air conditioner can lose efficiency if it's not given the care it needs. In a place like Sugar Hill, GA—where summers stretch on with heat and humidity—skipping routine checkups can lead to higher power bills and sluggish cooling. Getting your AC tuned up once a year helps it run better, last longer, and keep your home cool when it matters most.

Why a Yearly AC Tune-Up Makes a Big Difference

As your air conditioner works season after season, dust builds up, parts wear down, and efficiency starts to dip. Dirty filters, gunky coils, or a drop in refrigerant can all force the system to work harder than necessary—driving up your energy use and shrinking its performance.

That’s where routine maintenance steps in. By catching these issues early, technicians can clean up problem areas and make sure everything is running smoothly, helping your AC cool better with less effort.

What Happens During a Professional AC Service

When you book a service call with a qualified HVAC expert, they’ll do a full check-up on your system. That includes cleaning the condenser coils, topping off refrigerant if needed, testing the thermostat, tightening up any loose wires, and making sure moving parts are properly lubricated.

While some of these might seem like simple tasks, doing them right takes experience and the right tools. Trying to perform AC maintenance can often make things worse—it's always best to let trained technicians handle it and keep things running as they should.

More Than Efficiency: Comfort and System Health

Beyond cutting down on energy use, annual AC care helps your home feel better, too. A well-maintained unit cools more evenly, helps keep humidity in check, and helps improve the overall air quality inside your home.

It also helps your system stay reliable. By catching wear and tear early, you can avoid surprise breakdowns and extend the life of your unit—saving you from costly repairs and early replacements.

Local Know-How Makes a Difference in Sugar Hill, GA

While AC maintenance is a good idea no matter where you live, it’s especially important in places like Sugar Hill. The summers here aren’t easy on cooling systems, and local companies like Atlantic Services, Inc. understand precisely what’s needed to keep things running smoothly.

These local pros know the common issues AC units face in the area and what to check during a seasonal service. Choosing a trusted nearby provider also means faster help and the confidence that your system’s being taken care of by people who get the local climate.

Book Your Preventive Maintenance Before the Heat Hits

Spring is the ideal time to schedule your AC check-up—before the heat cranks up and your system goes into overdrive. That way, there’s time to fix any issues and avoid mid-summer meltdowns.

Atlantic Services, Inc. offers dependable tune-up services to help keep your AC in top form. Staying on top of routine maintenance doesn’t just keep your system running—it can save money on repairs and even add years to your unit’s life.

Don’t wait until something goes wrong with your AC equipment. Annual maintenance is a smart way to protect your comfort, your wallet, and your cooling investment. Reach out to the team at Atlantic Services, Inc. and get your system summer-ready today.

The quality of the air inside your Stone Mountain, GA home can significantly impact your comfort and well-being. Without proper ventilation, air can become stale, humidity levels may rise, and airborne pollutants can accumulate—potentially triggering allergies or respiratory issues. Investing in a whole-home ventilator is an excellent way to keep the air in your home fresh, improve comfort, and protect your indoor environment.

What Is a Whole-Home Ventilator?

A whole-home ventilator is designed to work alongside your HVAC system, replacing stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air in a controlled and energy-efficient manner. Unlike simply cracking open a window, these systems optimize airflow while minimizing energy loss.

There are several types of whole-home ventilators, each catering to different needs:

Exhaust Ventilators – Extract stale air from your home, creating negative pressure that draws in fresh air.

Supply Ventilators – Bring in outdoor air while pushing out stagnant indoor air through existing vents.

Balanced Ventilators – Maintain a steady exchange of indoor and outdoor air for optimal ventilation.

Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) – Exchange both heat and moisture between incoming and outgoing air, enhancing efficiency.

Why You Should Consider a Whole-Home Ventilator

1. Breathe Cleaner, Healthier Air

These systems continuously remove airborne pollutants, allergens, and lingering odors, ensuring that your home’s air stays fresh. They help reduce dust, pet dander, and other irritants that can impact your health.

2. Maintain a Comfortable Humidity Level

Balanced humidity is essential for both comfort and health. A whole-home ventilator prevents excessive dryness in winter and helps reduce excess moisture in summer, keeping your indoor environment pleasant year-round. Plus, maintaining the right humidity level reduces the risk of mold growth.

3. Improve Energy Efficiency & Extend HVAC Lifespan

By reducing the workload on your HVAC system, a whole-home ventilator enhances efficiency, potentially lowering your energy bills. Since your heating and cooling system won’t have to work as hard, it may also last longer.

4. Say Goodbye to Lingering Odors

Cooking smells, pet odors, and household activities can lead to stale, unpleasant air. A whole-home ventilator helps eliminate these persistent odors by continuously introducing fresh air into your home.

5. Prevent Organic Growth Indoors

Organic growth thrives in damp, stagnant conditions. With better airflow and moisture control, a whole-home ventilator reduces the chances of organic growth, helping protect both your home and your family’s health.

Staying Warm When It’s Freezing Outside

When winter sets in and temperatures plummet, a reliable heating system becomes essential. While traditional furnaces do the job, they can be expensive to operate and often struggle with even heat distribution. That’s where ductless heat pumps shine. They offer a cost and energy-efficient alternative that keeps homes cozy while reducing energy bills. It’s no surprise that more homeowners in Norcross, GA, are making the switch.

How Ductless Heat Pumps Keep Your Home Warm in the Cold

Unlike conventional heating systems that generate heat by burning fuel or using electric resistance, ductless heat pumps work differently. They extract heat from the outdoor air, even in freezing conditions, using advanced refrigerant technology. This heat is then amplified and transferred indoors, providing steady warmth without the excessive energy use of traditional heating methods.

Why This Matters in Cold Climates:

Performs efficiently even in temperatures as low as -13°F, and even lower

Delivers consistent warmth without the temperature swings of older systems

No ductwork needed, so there’s no heat loss from leaky air ducts

Why Ductless Heat Pumps Are a Smart Choice

One of the biggest advantages of ductless heat pumps are their exceptional efficiency, even in harsh winter conditions. Unlike fuel-burning systems that lose energy through exhaustion, ductless heat pumps simply transfer heat rather than create it, making them more efficient. Over time, this translates to lower energy costs and a warmer home without waste.

Key Efficiency Features:

High performance with efficiency ratings reaching 33 SEER and 13.5 HSPF

Zoned heating lets you warm specific areas instead of the entire house, reducing waste

For homeowners in cold regions, this means comfortable heating without excessive energy consumption.

Features That Make Ductless Heat Pumps Perfect for Winter

Modern ductless heat pumps are engineered for extreme cold. These systems come equipped with cutting-edge features that allow them to perform efficiently, even when temperatures drop well below freezing. Unlike traditional heating methods, they adapt to changes in temperature and humidity, ensuring steady and reliable warmth.

What Sets Them Apart?

Variable-speed compressors adjust automatically for maximum comfort.

Zoning capabilities allow you to heat specific rooms instead of the whole house.

Thanks to these advancements, staying warm all winter has never been easier.

Can Ductless Heat Pumps Handle Extreme Cold?

A common concern is whether ductless heat pumps can truly stand up to frigid temperatures. With proper installation and maintenance, these systems are built to extract heat from the air even in subzero conditions.

Tips to Maximize Efficiency in Extreme Cold:

The Cost-Saving Benefits of Ductless Heat Pumps

Beyond reliable heating, ductless heat pumps are a smart financial investment. Older heating systems often lose heat through inefficient ductwork, which leads to higher energy costs. Ductless systems, on the other hand, deliver warmth exactly where it’s needed, minimizing waste and keeping heating bills in check.

Among several other goals, the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act aims to help reduce everyday living costs for homeowners across the United States. The initiative features a variety of valuable energy efficiency incentives, but what can you do to get in on the action?

Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit

Initially scheduled to expire in 2022, the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit has instead been revived and extended. Under the Inflation Reduction Act, this incentive — also known as the 25C program — will remain active through 2032. To eliminate any eligibility gaps, the extension was also made retroactive to January 1, 2022.

The popular 25C program provides substantial tax credits to households that install certain high-efficiency equipment. This includes up to $600 for qualifying air conditioners and gas furnaces, with an annual cap of $1,200 per household. The yearly cap even increases to $2,000 when you install a qualifying heat pump, boiler, or heat pump water heater. However, the program’s stringent efficiency standards can significantly limit your options.

High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Program

If you’ve ever considered purchasing a heat pump for your home, now may be the perfect time to strike. The Inflation Reduction Act has appropriated $4.5 billion to fund the High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Program (HEEHRP). This program provides tremendous incentives to homeowners who install Energy Star-certified heat pumps.

If your household falls below 80% of the median local income, you may be able to recoup the entire cost of your system. Households that fall between 80% and 150% of the median income can still receive a 50% rebate through the HEEHRP. The program can also provide additional rebates to help upgrade your home’s wiring, electrical service panel, and insulation.

Home Owner Managing Energy Savings Program

Despite its clunky name, the Home Owner Managing Energy Savings (HOMES) Program promises to deliver serious savings for savvy homeowners. The program includes rebates covering a broad range of retrofits and home improvements that reduce household energy consumption. This includes heating and cooling systems, water heaters, insulation, air, and duct sealing, home energy audits, and more.

To qualify for rebates up to $2,000, your improvements must demonstrate energy savings of at least 20%. Saving more energy will earn you a larger rebate, up to a maximum of $8,000, for a 50% reduction in energy consumption. Be aware, however, that these rebates cannot be combined with other federal efficiency incentives.

The bottom line is that the Inflation Reduction Act has made investing in energy-efficient equipment incredibly appealing for homeowners. If you’re tired of paying high energy bills, talk to your local HVAC contractor about how rebates and incentives can help you save now and in the future.

The U.S. Department of Energy is about to enforce new SEER standards for HVAC systems, but what does that mean for you? To make sense of it all, let’s break down exactly what’s changing and what effects you can expect to see.

How SEER Measures Energy Efficiency

It might sound straightforward, but measuring the efficiency of air conditioners and air-source heat pumps is surprisingly complicated. Among other issues, system performance may vary considerably depending on the weather conditions at any given time. Think of it like measuring the fuel economy of a vehicle on a wide-open highway versus sitting in rush hour traffic.

To solve this problem, Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) calculates a system’s performance across an entire season. This produces a single number that serves as a simple, convenient reference for comparing the efficiency of different units. In essence, a higher SEER rating means less energy used and less money spent on cooling.

Demystifying the New SEER2 Mandates

For decades, the Department of Energy has enforced minimum efficiency standards for all new cooling systems. Heat pumps and AC systems in the North require a SEER rating of at least 13. In the South and Southwest, the current standard is 14 SEER. However, as of January 1, 2023, these minimum standards will increase by one for most systems.

This update is part of a broader “SEER2” initiative that features new testing procedures. The new SEER2 protocols are designed to better reflect real-world conditions, thus producing more accurate efficiency data. On average, a current rating of 14 SEER will compare to a SEER2 rating of approximately 13.4.

What This All Means for Homeowners

Since prices typically increase in line with efficiency, it will likely cost more to install new HVAC systems beginning in January. However, you won’t be required to replace existing equipment that falls below the new SEER2 standards. In addition, any added equipment costs may be offset over time by the resulting savings on energy bills.

Another key change coming in 2023 is the phase-out of R-410A refrigerant. This refrigerant will no longer be used in newer models but is still common in many current air conditioning units. Once again, the good news is that existing systems need not be replaced to comply with the new regulations. Nonetheless, if you currently have an R-410A system, it may be time to start planning for an eventual equipment upgrade.

The 2023 SEER2 mandates mark an important shift in the HVAC industry, but homeowners have no cause for alarm. While the cost of new AC and heat pump systems may increase, the corresponding jump in efficiency should be great news for all.
